Rob Smits is the Managing Partner of the New York Office and the Co-Head of Salans' Global Corporate Group. An experienced transactional attorney, Rob practices primarily in the areas of mergers & acquisitions, venture capital and private equity financing. He has represented numerous publicly owned and private companies in the acquisition and sale of businesses, and acquirers/issuers of securities in private placement transactions. Additionally, Rob has extensive experience in "distressed" merger & acquisition transactions involving companies in bankruptcy or liquidation. He also serves as outside counsel for certain clients and their board of directors.
Rob has represented clients in a variety of consumer, manufacturing and retail sectors, and in recent years has acted primarily for clients in the apparel, fashion, home furnishings, textiles and toy industries. In connection with such representations, he has considerable experience in the acquisition, disposition and licensing of trademarks, copyrights, patents and other intellectual property rights.
Rob is active in working with charitable organisations in the community. He serves as counsel for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, Inc., a charitable organisation focused on improving the quality of life of children, and is a director of Smile Train, Inc., an international charity dedicated to helping children who suffer from cleft lip and palate. Rob is also a director of Opera Français de New York, a not-for-profit opera company based in New York City.
