Dr. Iris Duchetsmann is Of Counsel in Salans’ Shanghai office. She heads the China labour law team.  Iris specialises in labour law, particularly on aspects that involve cross-border employment and international HR management. She also provides advice on matters such as residency, tax, and social security. Iris has extensive work experience both in China and Germany, where she successfully passed the examination for a specialised lawyer in labour law and gained insight on corporate processes working as an in-house lawyer in the HR department of a multinational corporation. She sits as Vice Chair of the European Chamber of Commerce in China, Human Resources Forum.

  • Advising a leading supplier of plastic processing auxiliary equipment on restructuring and personnel transfer
  • Setting up an HR management structure and implementing respective documents and policies for a well-known label brand manufacturer with a wide product range from laundry detergent powders to cosmetics
  • Advising one of the world’s biggest solar cell manufacturers on international HR management and local employment strategies
  • Advising a world leading out-of-home media and street furniture provider on labour dispatch arrangements and strategies
  • Counselling an international manufacturer and full line fastener distributor during lay-offs
  • Providing comprehensive labour law consultation to a leading global textile equipement manufacturer, including structuring and updating employment agreements for local and foreign employees, revising and implementing employees handbook, advising on compliance issues in financial department, etc.
  • Advising a top German-based company on assurance, consulting and classification for the maritime and energy industries on establishing trade unions
  • Advising a leading German-based precious metal and technology company on HR strategies and their expatriate planning in China, including social security and tax implications, drafting employment related agreements, termination of employment, and new appointment of a general manager
