Our firm has a long standing policy of not disclosing non-public, personal information about our clients and former clients without their consent.

The Collection of Non-Public, Personal Information

Like many other international law firms, we collect non-public, personal information directly from our clients in order to provide professional legal services. We may also collect non-public, personal information about our clients and former clients indirectly through other sources, including our website.

We do not seek any sensitive information through our website unless legally required for recruiting purposes. We suggest that you do not provide sensitive information to us through our website. If you, nonetheless, provide any sensitive information for any reason, we may accept your consent to use that information in the ways described in this privacy statement or as described at the point where you choose to disclose the information.

We do not use cookies. A cookie is generated by a software application on a website's server which enables it to customise services to the interests of the user by tracking the user's navigation through a small text file on the user's hard drive.

In order to properly manage our website, we may log information on our operational systems, and identify categories of visitors by items such as domain names and browser types. These statistics may be reported in the aggregate to our webmaster. This is to ensure that our website is an effective information resource.

Our Use of Non-public, Personal Information

Salans may use non-public, personal information we obtain for one or more of the following purposes:

  • for the purposes of responding to the requests made by our clients and former clients,
  • To provide copies of articles or other firm publications
  • to enable users to participate in marketing or educational programmes,
  • to facilitate the submission of resumes for purposes of exploring employment opportunities

We do not rent, trade or sell non-public, personal information. We use the information for the intended purpose stated at the time that the information is collected. This information goes directly to a limited number of representatives of the firm who have responsibility for addressing the clients' needs. The information is not shared with persons outside of the firm, without our clients' consent, except in accordance with law and the administration of our business in circumstances that respect our clients' privacy interests.

We make every practical effort to avoid excessive or irrelevant collection of information. If one of our clients or former clients believes we have collected excessive information, we encourage the client or former client to contact us at info@salans.com to raise any concerns or questions. Visitors to our website have the same option to contact us and raise issues or questions about our collection or use of non-public, personal information.

Non-public, Personal Information Disclosed to Third Parties

We will not disclose non-public, personal information to third parties, except under the following circumstances:

  • As required by law through subpoena, search warrant or other legal process
  • When requested by a client or former client, but solely in connection with his own information
  • When required to deliver publications or reference materials requested
  • When required to facilitate conferences or events hosted by a third party

Your Opt Out Option

You may instruct us not to disclose non-public, personal information about you to non-affiliated third parties in the following circumstances:

Our Record Retention Practices

In general, non-public, personal information which we collect will be retained as long as the information is required to completely service the client's request, as long as required in order to satisfy regulatory requirements, or until an appropriate request is made that we dispose of that information. Mailing list information and e-mail are retained for only the period of time considered reasonable to facilitate any such request. Resumes are disposed of when they are either no longer under consideration or are considered dated by our recruitment committee.

Voluntary Nature of the Submission of Non-public, Personal Information

All non-public, personal information provided to us through our website is provided voluntarily by visitors. Should visitors subsequently choose to unsubscribe from mailing lists we maintain, we will willingly accommodate the request. Those who wish to unsubscribe should send us an e-mail at info@salans.com with an instruction to delete the person's name from our mailing list.

Requesting Changes to Information we have Collected

Each visitor to our website has the right to access any of his non-public, personal information we have obtained from the visitor through our website. We will happily make any changes to that information at the request of the visitor. Any such requests should be made to info@salans.com. You may also contact us at the offices listed under "Your Opt Out Option" above.

We are committed to providing reasonable and practical access to visitors to allow them the opportunity to identify and correct any inaccuracies. When requested, we will also delete any non-public, personal information from our operational systems.

We do not assume any responsibility for verifying the ongoing accuracy of the content of any non-public, personal information.

Applicability of Privacy Policy

Our privacy policy applies to all employees of the firm and covers each office of the firm. While we have multiple frames for each office, we have only one website.

By submitting information to us, the visitor is providing explicit consent to trans-border transmission of information for the fulfilment of their voluntary requests.

Changes to our Privacy Statement

We reserve the right to modify or amend this statement and our policies at any time and for any reason. Nothing contained in this statement is intended to create a contract or agreement between us and any user visiting our website or providing non-public, personal information in any form.

Children's Online Privacy Protection

We do not seek, nor would we knowingly accept, non-public, personal information from children. Our website is not designed for or directed at minors.

Personal data that you may convey to us via this web site may in some cases be conserved. In this case, you would have the right to access and modify such data by applying directly to Salans. In any case, such data may not be transmitted to a third party for commercial purposes.
