Bodo Schaar

Bodo Schaar is a partner in Salans’ London office. He is a member of Salans' Global Reorganisation, Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Group and the Banking & Finance Practice Group. He concentrates on re-financings, financial restructurings, and (cross-border) insolvencies.

Bodo has a broad practice advising financial institutions and other creditors and debtors in relation to a wide variety of debt and equity investments. A substantial proportion of his work consists of advising international clients in relation to their investments in Germany or the United Kingdom, ranging from purely domestic deals to multi-layered, multi-jurisdictional transactions spanning companies' entire capital structure. He also frequently advises on regulatory issues relating to the trading of debt and equity instruments, in particular in the context of distressed situations.

Bodo is dual qualified as an English and a German lawyer and has worked both in London and Frankfurt am Main. He is a frequent speaker at many finance and insolvency conferences.  

Recent Experience:

• Advising Morgan Stanley in relation to numerous investments in publicly quoted and privately held European companies
• Advising Commerzbank as arranger of a syndicated refinancing of Zapf Creation AG, a publicly quoted German company with subsidiaries in France, Hong Kong, Poland, and the United Kingdom
• Advising a major US investment fund in relation to its mezzanine investment (debt & equity) in a German privately held company
• Advising a Japanese investment manager in relation to its capital note investment in a structured investment vehicle
