Barry Mordsley, a Consultant in the London office, concentrates on employment law and connected matters. He was formerly an academic lecturing in London and also at Cornell University, USA. He transferred to full-time legal practice in 1989 having worked as a solicitor for many years in a part-time capacity. Barry is currently a Visiting Professor in Law at Middlesex University, United Kingdom and an Employment Judge (since 1984).

He works in all areas of employment law, providing strategic, tactical and commercial advice, using his considerable experience and knowledge. Barry also has knowledge of company and partnership law which is often useful. He has acted in many important cases, acting for two claimants in a whistleblowing case which led to the highest ever tribunal award being made. He was a member of the Discrimination Law Committee of the International Bar Association rising to Chair which he vacated January 1, 2009.

He was a founder member of the Employment Lawyers Association Management Committee, and a member of the Members’ Advisory Group for the Employers Forum on Age. As a member of the Law Society’s Employment Law Committee, he wrote its report recommending age discrimination legislation and contributed to its report recommending disability discrimination legislations. He regularly writes articles and speaks at conferences and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He co-wrote the original Butterworths Employment Law Guide, which is now in its fifth edition and which he still co-writes.

Chambers UK 2012 describes Barry as “able to cut through everything to conclude matters in the best possible way.”

He has also been identified as a “prominent practitioner” in his field by PLC Which? Lawyer, Labour and Employment Law. Barry has acquired a reputation for expertise in tribunals. Barry has been listed in the Who’s Who Legal, Who’s Who in the City and Legal Experts (all 2009 editions).
