Michael Lloyd is a consultant to Salans and is based in the London office, and for many years he has specialised in maritime and commodity trading law and dispute resolution. Michael qualified as a solicitor in 1972 and later became a partner in the maritime law firm of Hill Dickinson & Co. In July 1978, he started his own independent maritime & commercial law practice.
Michael has specialist experience in collision, salvage and related marine casualties, general average and marine disputes, charterparty disputes, claims under contracts of carriage including bill(s) of lading, booking notes and CMR disputes, shipbuilding and ship sale disputes, cargo (liquid and dry) quality and quantity disputes, sale of goods disputes, crewing and manning disputes, general insurance and re-insurance disputes, ship arrests and injunctive relief, CIF & FOB contract disputes and shipping related personal injury claims.
He is experienced in aviation law including advice on aircraft registration, sale and purchase, leasing, and passenger and cargo claims. Michael also has experience in High Court admiralty and commercial litigation, LMAA, LOF, FOSFA, GAFTA and other commodity trade association arbitrations, and shipping non-contentious including advice in relation to and negotiation of ship sale and purchase contracts, bank documents in respect of ship finance and ship registration, as well as flagging and crewing.
