Salans advises Sana on the acquisition of Rummelsberg hospital

18 August 2010

International law firm Salans has advised Sana Kliniken AG on the acquisition of all shares in the hospital Krankenhaus Rummelsberg GmbH. The 400-bed specialist hospital for orthopaedics/accident surgery, neurology, internal medicine, and rehabilitation was previously operated by diaconal organisation Rummelsberger Diakonie. The Federal Cartel Office has already approved the acquisition of the hospital, which boasts 470 employees. The transaction is said to be one of the most important takeovers in the hospital sector this year.

A team from Salans’ Berlin office under the lead of partner Dr. Christof Kautzsch advised Sana in all legal and structural questions. The law firm regularly advises on operations in the health care sector, especially on acquisitions, privatisations, and reorganisations of hospitals and pharmaceutical companies, including recently Warner Chilcott on the acquisition of Protector & Gamble’s pharma business and the Johanniterorden (Order of St. John) on the disposition of the hospital Bramsche to Niels-Stensen-Kliniken.

Sana Kliniken AG belongs to the established private hospital providers in Germany with 41 hospitals and 12 care homes. The company has more than 19,000 employees.
