Salans Bucharest continues to expand its leisure and hospitality experience with advising Hilton Worldwide on an agreement to Romania's first Doubletree by Hilton hotel, scheduled to open in Oradea in September 2010.
"We are delighted that our good cooperation with Hilton led to bringing a new upscale brand to Romania. Salans has advised on the Romanian law aspects," said Christopher Berlew, Managing Partner Salans Bucharest, who led the team together with Laura Tiuca, Managing Counsel and office's co-head of the real estate practice. Added Tiuca: "It is encouraging that large developers in the hospitality industry are considering their presence outside Bucharest more and more and are bringing in other brands in their portfolio."
Hilton signed an agreement with property owner Calipso SA, a company listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. The new five-star hotel will have a capacity of 147 rooms and meeting facilities for about 350 people, restaurant, bar, thermal spa center and a swimming pool.
Salans’ leisure and hospitality sector group handles all aspects of hotel, leisure and resort development, construction and financing. Projects undertaken in the leisure and hospitality sector often require resources and local experience across multiple areas of law. The firm's practice has been dealing with hotel sales and acquisitions, management and franchise agreements, hotel leases, hotel financing, tax structuring and employment law.
The firm represents many of the largest and best-known property developers and real estate equity funds, as well as domestic and international hotel operators. Marriott, the Blackstone Group, Radisson SAS, Accor and Compania Hoteliera Intercontinental are among the clients the firm counts in its international portfolio.
