Salans Paris Creates a Legal Precedent with a Decision Involving the Central Bank of Russia

23 September 2009

As a result of Salans’ efforts, the Paris Court of Appeal entered a judgment on September 17 accepting all of the claims made by Salans' client, the Russian Central Bank (RCB). This decision is particularly important as it resulted in the release of the attachments (EUR 250 million) carried out by the Swiss company Noga against the RCB’s financial assets. It is a decision which confirms the particular status of central banks in the Paris financial community.

All of the RCB’s claims were accepted by the Court of Appeal. Other than the legal difficulties of the dispute for which no case law existed, the case was particularly sensitive as it involved a central bank.

The Russian Central Bank was advised and defended by Salans (Pascale PoupelinParis Partner, Catherine JoffroyParis Of Counsel, and Richard MartyParis Of Counsel).
