International law firm Salans officially launched its Greater China presence last week with a
client reception at an art gallery in the heart of Beijing.
In a nod to the firm's roots in emerging markets, the reception was hosted at the intimate
Goncharova Gallery, specialising in Russian art. An exclusive display of selected artworks was on
display for the more than 100 guests who attended.
Mr Joerg Wuttke, President of European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, delivered a note of
congratulations describing Salans as the only true international law firm from Europe. Salans'
International Development Partner Roger Abrahams and Shanghai Managing Partner Dr Bernd-Uwe Stucken
expressed the firm's confidence in the growth of the Greater China practice following Mr Wuttke's
speech.
Beijing is the second location in China for Salans, with a successful Shanghai office in
operation since 2003. The Beijing office serves clients with regional headquarters in the Chinese
capital and offers easier access to central government authorities as well as provides the base for
Salans to develop its FDI and M&A business in Northeast China. Other focal areas for Salans'
Beijing practice are the cooperation with Salans global competition law and anti dumping practices
for all China-related cases, advice on asset finance transactions, especially lease finance, and
real estate investment including construction projects.
The Beijing office is led by Matthias Mueller, a German national and fluent Mandarin speaker who
has lived in China since 2002.
On the heels of the Beijing launch, Salans has also recently announced its third office in the
region - in Hong Kong SAR - which marks its 21st office, serviced by over 750 lawyers
worldwide.
