Amendments to Legislation on the Hiring of Foreign Employees

On 1 July 2010, amendments to a number of legal acts governing the hiring and employment of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation will come into effect. Practical application of the new version of the Federal Law will require additional explanatory and clarificatory secondary legislation, which is expected to be adopted in the near future.

Am 1. Juli 2010 sind einige Gesetzesänderungen in Kraft getreten, welche die Heranziehung ausländischer Mitarbeiter und deren Berufstätigkeit in der Russischen Föderation betreffen. Die praktische Anwendung der Neufassung des Föderalen Gesetzes ohne entsprechende erläuternde und präzisierende Durchführungsbestimmungen, die in Kürze verabschiedet werden sollen, ist bisher nicht möglich.

Сообщаем Вам, что с 1 июля 2010 года вступают в силу изменения в некоторые законодательные акты, регулирующие порядок привлечения и осуществления иностранными гражданами трудовой деятельности на территории Российской Федерации. Необходимо отметить, что практическое применение новой редакции Федерального закона не представляется возможным без соответствующих разъясняющих и уточняющих подзаконных актов, принятие которых планируется в ближайшее время.

Legal reforms in Russia in response to the global financial crisis have been considerable and somewhat unexpected. They have strengthened creditors' rights inside and outside of bankruptcy through the introduction of out-of-court enforcement and the priority ranking of secured creditors, among other features. The effectiveness of the reforms, however, will continue to depend on the judicial system.

Registration of Domain Names in Cyrillic

On November 16, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began accepting applications for top-level domain name assignment in other alphabets. Russia was among the first countries to apply for its (Cyrillic) domain, “.РФ”. Addresses in the “.РФ” domain will appear on the Internet in February or March of 2010.

Over the course of this year, there has been a continuous reform of company law in Russia. This has addressed various aspects of operation of commercial legal entities, including pressing issues of corporate governance and recognition of shareholders’ agreements. As part of this reform, the Laws on JSCs and LLCs have been amended to introduce limitations on invalidation of major and interested-party transactions of JSCs and LLCs.
