Barcelona (El Prat) Airport
Barcelona International Airport is situated 13 KM South West of the city centre and it has 3 terminals: A (where most international flights arrive), B (mostly domestic flights) and C.
Taxi
Taxis offer a non-expensive and appropriate manner to reach the city centre. You will find a taxi rank outside any of the main terminal exits. They operate all night and their average fare is around 25 euro. There are some surcharges, which include a supplement for travelling from the airport and for each suitcase. The journey takes around 25 - 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Trains (Renfe)
The RENFE train service operates every 30 minutes from the airport to Barcelona centre and vice versa. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes. You will need to catch the train about 5 minutes walk from the airport exit located in Terminal A.
From the airport to the city centre (where our offices are located) you will need to get off at either Passeig de Gràcia (which is the closest stop to our office) or Sants Estació (Barcelona’s main train station). Both of them are linked to the main underground system. Passeig de Gràcia’s train stop is just one underground station away from our office (line 3, green line, direction Canyelles), whereas from Sants Estaciò, you will need to take either Line 3 (Direction Canyelles) or Line 5, blue line (Direction Horta). In both cases, the underground station where you will need to get off is Diagonal (3 minutes walk from our office), go left at the crossing between Avinguda Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia and cross the street at the traffic lights. At a less than 3 minutes walk distance you will pass the Chamber of Commerce – Cambra de Comerç – building, which is just next to our office building.
You can purchase a T10 (Zone 1) ticket at the entrance to the RENFE train platform at Barcelona Airport, which will allow you changing from the train to the underground system without paying any additional charges (within the first 1h 15). This ticket will give you 10 trips on any of the main transportation systems in Barcelona city centre. If you get a normal ticket (the price is 1.35 €) you will then have to buy another one in order to change to the underground system at Sants Estació/Passeig de Gràcia. You also have the possibility of buying one-day tickets, which will allow you unlimitedly moving around the selected zone from validation to service closing time at the cost of 5.80 € (Zone 1). There is also a number of tourist and leisure tickets for 2 to 5-days travelling, also with unlimited number of trips per day, as well as the Barcelona Card, a card issued by the Barcelona Tourism Association which not only offers free unlimited transportation but also discounts in many of the Barcelona’s main attractions as well as a free map and guide of the city.
Shuttle bus A1 – Aerobus
The Aerobus is an express bus service to the city centre which runs approximately every 15 minutes from the airport (all three Terminals) to the main key points of the city centre (Plaça de Espanya, Plaça de Sants and Plaça Catalunya) and vice versa, all connected by underground stations Espanya, Sants Estació and Catalunya, respectively, where you can take Line 3, green line, direction Canyelles and get off at Diagonal.
The price of the Aerobus ticket is 4.25 € for a single ticket and 7.30 € for a return one. It operates from 6.00 a.m. to 1 a.m. from the airport to Plaça Catalunya and from 5.30 a.m. to 00.15 a.m. from Plaça Catalunya to the airport. There are automatic ticket machines at the airport bus stops where you can get your tickets and credit cards are accepted.
Public Buses
There is also one public bus, line 46, which runs with a frequency of 25 minutes approximately from and to the airport and which is integrated in the T10 ticket system mentioned above. Remember that if you do not have this type of ticket, the price of the single trip is 1.35 €. Timetables range from 5.00 a.m. to 23.00 approximately from and to the airport; times are displayed at the corresponding bus stops. Line 46 will take you to Plaça de Espanya, where you will find underground station Espanya (see above for directions).
Nit Buses
There is a night bus (Nit Bus), line N17, which covers the distance from/to the city centre (Plaça Catalunya) and the airport (all three terminals). The approximate frequency is 20 minutes and it is a 30 minutes journey. Stops include: Plaça de Espanya and Sants Estació.
It runs from 10.05 p.m. to 05.05 a.m. from the airport and from 11.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. from Plaça de Catalunya, and it is integrated in the T10 ticket system.
NB: Please bear in mind that the underground system will remain close from 12.00 a.m. to 5.00 a.m. from Monday to Thursday and Sundays, and from 2.00 a.m. to 5.00 a.m. on Fridays. Saturdays’ timetable is non-stop.
Rent a Car
There are 4 companies that offer car hire at the airport: Hertz, Avis, National Atesa and Europcar. You will find the rental companies for car hire at Barcelona airport in Terminal B.
Please notice that you will need to leave the car in a public car park as parking in Barcelona city centre (where the office is located) is almost impossible.
By car
Journey time from the airport to the office is 25-30 minutes depending on traffic. From the city, the airport is well signed on major roads.
